Zinc Roofing & Cladding

In a world obsessed with fast finishes and disposable materials, zinc roofing and cladding quietly does the opposite. It develops character with age providing decades of dependable performance.

Zinc Roofing & Cladding

Timeless character. Modern performance.

Out of all the traditional metal roofing materials available, zinc remains the most well-known, interesting and widely used material. Commonly considered a contemporary metal roofing material, zinc has in fact been installed on roofs throughout Europe for over a century. Today’s Zinc-Titanium alloy is malleable, has an excellent appearance, is cost effective and has a relatively long life with low maintenance.

Whether you are choosing materials for your own home or specifying for a large-scale architectural project, zinc delivers a rare balance of beauty, performance and restraint.

Zinc’s Natural Transformation

Zinc begins life with a bright metallic finish. Exposure to air and moisture triggers a controlled oxidation process, forming a protective patina that progresses through blue-grey tones before settling into a refined, matte slate appearance.

Zinc Finishes

Zinc comes in natural, preweathered and pigmented finishes with natural being bright grey and pre-weathered ranging from grey to black.

Natural zinc has an initial shiny metallic appearance that develops a patina over time. This very patina actually becomes a protective layer for the zinc, giving a long life product.

Preweathered zinc is chemically treated to give various matt colour options, some representative of weathered natural zinc. The preweathered zinc will take on its natural patina over time, again protecting the zinc from further corrosion.

Coloured zinc is created by adding pigments to a durable protective coating, giving the appearance of colour but still revealing the grained preweathered zinc surface.

For projects where visual consistency is required from day one, pre-weathered and colour-treated zinc options provide immediate tonal stability while retaining zinc’s long-term benefits.

Key Features

Durability

Zinc regularly achieves a service life of 75+ years when correctly installed. Historic European zinc roofs have already proven this over multiple generations.

Flexibility

It’s malleability allows zinc to be folded, seamed and formed without losing integrity. This makes it ideal for complex roof forms, façades and detailed junctions.

Low lifetime cost

Minimal maintenance, corrosion resistance and longevity combine to deliver an excellent whole-life cost, often outperforming cheaper materials over time.

Sustainability

Zinc is a natural material with high recycled content and is fully recyclable at end of life. Its durability significantly reduces material replacement and waste.

Zinc Roofs and Façades Age Beautifully

If you’re planning a new build, renovation or extension, zinc offers something most materials can’t, it gets better with age.

  • Natural zinc starts bright and silver, then naturally weathers into soft grey and slate tones
  • It requires very little maintenance once installed
  • Scratches and minor marks often self-heal as the patina develops
  • It suits both modern homes and traditional architecture

Zinc roofs and cladding are calm, confident and long-lasting. For homes that still perform and look great for many decades, zinc is a quietly smart choice.

Zinc Offers Exceptional Design Freedom

Zinc has earned its place in contemporary architecture because it behaves well, both on paper and on site.

  • Highly formable with minimal springback, zinc is often installed using standing seam, shingle tile, intalok plank panel or overlaping panel
  • Suitable for curved surfaces, tight radii and crisp geometries
  • Available in natural, pre-weathered and pigmented finishes

Over time, façades mature instead of degrading. With correct detailing, ventilation and separation layers, zinc delivers predictable performance across decades.
